TESINI HURLS NO-HITTER FOR LOWELL CATHOLIC

Shawsheen, Pelham, Tewksbury also capture baseball wins

Kellen Tesini enjoyed an afternoon to remember Wednesday.

The sophomore tossed a no-hitter and struck out 10 batters in going the distance during Lowell Catholic’s 3-0 victory over Whittier Tech in CAC baseball action.

LC (3-1) scored one run in the fourth and two in the fifth. Tesini pitched around six walks.

Offensivel­y, Dan Parent doubled, singled and drove in two. Sean Hines doubled and scored a run and Colin Robinson lofted a sacrifice fly to plate a run. Lacing doubles were Aidan Virella and Seamus Scott. Singling were Sean Scott, Robert Shabouk and Zach Gosselin.

SHAWSHEEN 3, GLT 0 » In a battle of longtime CAC rivals, both pitchers threw well. ST hurler Will Trach was superb, tossing a complete game two-hit shutout with nine strikeouts to blank Greater Lowell Tech.

He worked in concert with catcher Robbie Welch during the gem for the Rams (4-2, 2-0 CAC). Will Holloway led the offense with a hit and two runs scored. Robbie Welch added a hit and run, while Brendan Lee delivered a big RBI double in the fifth inning.

PELHAM 9, HOLLIS-BROOKLINE 1» Henry Paquette carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, only giving up one hit and one earned run while striking out 10 in Pelham’s win.

Zach James paced the offense going 4-for-5 with three RBI. Jake Davidson and James Patchen also had three hits for the Pythons.

TEWKSBURY 4, BEDFORD 2 » Kyle Cummings hit a go-ahead tworun triple in the bottom of the sixth as Tewksbury handed coach Matt Feld his first victory.

Cummings also picked up the win in relief by throwing three shutout innings for the Redmen (1-3) in the non-league battle. MELROSE 13, WILMINGTON 4 » The

Wildcats allowed seven runs in the second inning and couldn’t recover in the Middlesex League battle.

Wilmington was held to five hits. Michael Dynan went 2-for-4 and scored a run, while Noah Spencer went 1-for-4 and drove in two runs. Chipping in with an RBI each were Brian Banks and Connor Lovell. The Wildcats scored all of their runs in the third inning.

BG 9, ALVIRNE 5 » Bishop Guertin rallied past the Broncos with a seven-run seventh inning.

Jackson Goldstein went 1-for2, drove in a run and scored a run, while Josh Wilson went 1-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI. AJ Holmes recorded the win on the mound, going four innings, allowing one hit and striking out eight.

For Alvirne, Devin Smith pitched the game of his high school career, taking a one-hitter into the seventh. Swinging hot bats for the Broncos were Kyle Dufour and Michael Bebris.

G-D 7, NASHOBA REG. 4 » A fourrun uprising in the bottom of the sixth lifted Groton-dunstable to victory in Groton.

Andrew Raymond went 2-for-3 to pace the Crusaders’ seven-hit attack. Alex Kelly went 1-for-2 with two RBI, while Graeme White, Korbin Larsen and Jonah Gaboriault all drove in runs. Kelly was the starting pitcher, tossing 4.2 innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs, and fanning four.

WA 3, BOSTON LATIN 1 » Nic Bonica pitched four strong innings, striking out six and allowing one run, and Evan Pasters notched the save by tossing three scoreless innings of relief and fanning three in the DCL win.

Pacing Westford’s hitting attack with two hits each were Tyler Frazee, Donny Metznik (2 RBI) and Ryan Snow (RBI). Playing strong defense were Justin Davighi, James Mcdermott and Frazee.

lett tossed a five-inning no-hitter as Ayer Shirley won on the road.

Gauntlett struck out six and helped his own cause by rapping out two hits. James Churchill continued to swing a hot bat by doubling, tripling and going 3-for-3 for the Panthers (3-1).

Boys track

LOCALS SHINE » A total of 12 local individual­s and one relay team won events at the inaugural Jack Lang Invitation­al at the Mccarthy Middle School in Chelmsford.

For Lowell, Khai Yin won the 110 high hurdles (14.69) in the third-fastest time in program history. Ansah Samuel won the 100 (11.30) in the program’s ninth-fastest clocking. Denzel Kisekka captured the long jump (19-11.5).

For Chelmsford, Luke Tremblay ruled the 400 (52.74), Phil Rosen won the 400 hurdles (62.0), Xavier May claimed the mile (4:33.98), Gable Gray won the javelin (171-5) and Dylan Tarini captured the triple jump (41-0). The Lions also won the 4×400 relay in 3:41.20.

For Billerica, Dan Moore won the shot put (47-3.25) and Aidan Coyne soared to capture the pole vault (10-0). For Tewksbury, first place was earned by Manny Mengata in the discus (14611) and Salvatore Catanzano in the high jump (6-0). BURLINGTON 108, WILMINGTON 28 » Wilmington received a win from Vincenzo Bond in the 200 (24.43) in the Middlesex League loss.

The 4×100 (50.91) and 4×400 (4:05.60) relay teams placed second. Individual­ly, also coming in second for the Wildcats were Dean Ciampa in the mile (4:52.67) and two mile (10:48.03), and Martin Philossain­t in the long jump (19-4), Aidan Burke in the javelin (138-5), Sean Patrone in the high jump (5-8) and Marvins Jean in the triple jump (399.75).

Girls track

LOCALS STAR » Billerica’s Nyrah Joseph was the lone local double winner at the inaugural Jack Lang Invitation­al at the Mccarthy Middle School in Chelmsford.

Joseph ruled the 100 high hurdles (15.97) and the high jump (5-0). Teammate Ashley Caputo was the winner of the shot put (32-9).

For Lowell, winning events were Britney Ogiegor in the 100 (13.23), Quinn Petzold in the 400 (57.79) and Hannah Laderoute in the discus (102-11). The Red Raiders’ 4×400 relay team of Petzold, Ogiegor, Regina Wasaidy and Sabrina Cady won in 4:09.46. Petzold broke the 2019 school record of Jordan Lamarre.

Chelmsford’s Naomi D’souza won the 200 (26.35) and Tewksbury’s Jaden Kasule captured the pole vault (9-0). Tewksbury’s 4×100 relay team won in 52.55.

Softball

WILMINGTON 17, MELROSE 0 » Eric Mccarthy almost hit for the cycle to pace Wilmington in the Middlesex League rout, as she singled, double and tripled.

Eva Boudreau and Ali Mcelligott each had three hits for the Wildcats, who had 16 hits and five steals. Pitcher Izzy Mailla went six innings, allowing four hits, while striking out eight and walking none. HOLLIS-BROOKLINE 6, PELHAM 0 » Undefeated Hollis-brookline handed the Pythons their first loss during NHIAA Div. 2 action.

For Pelham (2-1), Caileigh Aguiar struck out nine batters and allowed three earned runs on five hits. She had two singles offensivel­y. Aubrin Berger also notched a single.

NASHOBA REG. 2, G-D 0 » Despite fine pitching from Lauren and Kaitlin Haggerty, the Crusaders were nipped in Mid-wach action.

Lauren Haggerty pitched five innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs.

Kaitling tossed two scoreless innings. Nashoba scored both of its runs in the top of the third. Lauren Haggerty (1-for-3) and center fielder Emma Hulslander (1-for-2) had the lone hits for Groton-dunstable.

AYER SHIRLEY 16, GARDNER 3» The visiting Panthers led 7-0 after two innings and cruised to the Midwach win. Devin Delyani and Lauren Reardon paced the offense and scored four runs each. Delyani went 3-for-3 and Reardon went 2-for-2 for AS (2-0).

Boys volleyball

LEXINGTON 3, CENTRAL 0 » The Raiders dropped the non-league encounter, 2512, 25-17, 25-20.

Michael Nguyen dished out 13 assists, while Deryl Atem and Jaithian Medina had eight and six kills, respective­ly, for Central Catholic (3-4). Aidan Herries compiled eight digs and Sam Ruiz finished with 10 service points.

Girls lacrosse

WA 23, GROTON-DUNSTABLE 6 » The Carmichael­s combined to tally 13 goals to spark Westford Academy to an easy non-league win.

Up 6-2 after one quarter and then 11-4 at halftime, the Ghosts took advance of Groton-dunstable playing shorthande­d due to yellow cards in the second half.

Kassidy Carmichael paced the scoring parade with six goals and nine assists, while Kiley Carmichael netted seven goals. Other offensive catalysts were Olivia Cipriano (4 goals, 2 assists), Mia Cullen (3 goals, assist), Avery Votano (2 goals) and Erin Keefe (goal, assist). Molly Harding was a defensive leader.

PELHAM 13, MILFORD 3 » The Pythons broke out to a 9-0 halftime lead and cruised to the NHIAA Div. 2 victory.

Pacing the offense with three goals each were Sophia Joncas, Ella Desimone

and Jessie Phillips. Brianna Wood added two goals, Kate Burke dished out five assists, and Katherine Carroll and Julianna Rocha added a goal each for Pelham (3-1).

Boys lacrosse

TEWKSBURY 11, AMESBURY 5 » Trailing 5-4 at halftime, the Redmen tightened up defensivel­y to post the nonleague win at home.

Offensivel­y, Cam Guedner and Tyler Barnes each netted hat tricks. Scoring two goals each were Mikey Connors and Mario Simione.

Boys tennis

BG 8, MANCHESTER CENTRAL 1 » Singles wins from Jack Kostansek (8-5), Evan Deyak (8-6), Jaime Gomez-herrera (8-2), Jonny Perrot (8-2), Max Moynihan (8-1) and Charlie Dabrowski (8-0) lifted Bishop Guertin to victory.

Also winning were the doubles teams of Perrot/ Moynihan (8-5) and Dabrowski/asher Griffin (8-5).
