Driver killed in fiery single-vehicle crash Vehicle struck tree along Mammoth Road
PELHAM, N.H. » A driver was killed on Wednesday when the vehicle they were operating exited Mammoth Road, struck a tree head-on and burst into flames.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to the Pelham Police Department.
Shortly after 3:10 p.m., emergency crews were called to the vicinity of 970 Mammoth Road for reports of a single-vehicle crash. As crews headed to the scene, they were notified the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames and the occupant was still inside.
Police said they arrived on scene to find a fully-engulfed black 2010 Chevy Avalanche
that had crashed into a large tree off the shoulder of the roadway. Pelham firefighters extinguished the fire as quickly as possible, according to police.
The driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. Pelham Police Chief Anne Perriello said the driver’s identity would be released on Friday.
Investigating agencies assisting with the crash include the Hudson Police Department Technical Accident Reconstruction unit, the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Office of the New Hampshire State Medical Examiner, and members of the Pelham Police Department.
Mammoth Road was closed for more than six hours as a result of the investigation.
