THE GAME: Chris Taylor hit a grand slam and the Dodgers beat the Kansas City Royals, 7-5, on Friday afternoon at Surprise Stadium.

PITCHING REPORT: Lefthander Clayton Kershaw pitched two scoreless innings in his Cactus League debut. Kershaw gave up doubles to Whit Merrifield in the first inning and Michael Taylor in the second but neither runner advanced. Kershaw struck out two and touched 90mph on the stadium radar gun . ... Left-hander Alex Vesia and right-hander Andre Jackson combined on 2-1⁄3 scoreless innings, striking out three.

HITTING REPORT: Taylor was 2for 3in the game with a double, the grand slam and two runs scored. Taylor’s slam was a 444-foot drive onto the berm in front of the scoreboard at Surprise Stadium . ... DEFENSE REPORT: Third baseman Justin Turner handled a bullet hit right at him by Hunter Dozier in the second inning. Turner was knocked off balance but threw Dozier out at first.
