Wood's pitching, potent offense lead Giants in rout over Padres

Alex Wood took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, and Wilmer Flores had two home runs among his four hits and four RBIs in the visiting San Francisco Giants’ 12-0 rout of the San Diego Padres on Sunday.

Wood’s brilliant effort Sunday followed Carlos Rodón’s dominant performanc­e Saturday, when he struck out 12 in a three-hitter.

Wood (6-7) walked Manny Machado with one out in the first and didn’t allow another baserunner until rookie C.J. Abrams stroked a single to left on the left-hander’s second pitch of the sixth.

Wood went seven innings, allowing three singles while striking out eight and walking one.

Meanwhile, the Giants offense collected 17 hits and walked four times.

Flores and Thairo Estrada each hit a two-run homer off rookie lefty MacKenzie Gore (4-4), who lasted only 3 1/3 innings. BRAVES 4, NATIONALS 3, 12 INNINGS >> Austin Riley hit a tying home run in the eighth and a winning single in the 12th, lifting surging Atlanta to a home win over Washington.

The Braves have won six of seven and are 29-8 since June 1, the best record in the majors in that span.

Washington has lost 10 of 11.

Dansby Swanson started the Braves 12th as the automatic runner at second base. After an intentiona­l walk to Matt Olson, Riley lined a single to left off Jordan Weems (0-1).

A day after scoring three runs in the 10th to snap New York’s three-game win streak, Boston scored one in the third, three in the fifth to tie it, one in the sixth to take the lead and four insurance runs in the seventh.

J.D. Martinez hit a tworun homer to make it 6-all in the fifth, and Franchy Cordero and Christian Vazquez also homered.

Giancarlo Stanton and Matt Carpenter homered for the Yankees, who scored two runs off Boston starter Nick Pivetta in each of the first three innings to open a 6-2 lead.

In the seventh, the Red Sox loaded the bases on an error, a walk and a single before Story doubled high off the Green Monster

in left-center to clear the bases.

CARDINALS 4, PHILLIES 3 >> Albert Pujols hit his 684th homer and Tommy Edman drove in the tiebreakin­g run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth to help host St. Louis beat Philadelph­ia.

St. Louis had lost two straight and six of seven.

Kyle Schwarber hit his NL-leading 28th homer for the Phillies, who had won three in a row.

Pujols, who singled to start the go-ahead rally in the eighth, has 1,377 extrabase hits to tie Stan Musial for third place on the career list. The slugger’s fifth homer of the season was a solo shot in the sixth.

MARLINS 2, METS 0, 10 INNINGS >> Sandy Alcantara extended his shutout streak to 19 innings and pinch-runner Billy Hamilton scored on a throwing error by catcher Tomás Nido in the 10th, sending visiting Miami past New York.

Luke Williams added an RBI single for the Marlins.

Alcantara allowed six hits and one walk in seven innings and lowered his ERA to 1.73. He struck out four and walked one.

ASTROS 6, ATHLETICS 1 >> Korey Lee got his first three hits in the major leagues and drove in three runs, helping Houston to its 11th victory in 13 games with a win at Oakland.

Jake Odorizzi (4-2) had seven strikeouts in seven shutout innings for his first win after missing 42 games with a lower left leg injury.

REDS 10, RAYS 5 >> Mike Moustakas, Tyler Stephenson and Jonathan India each hit a two-run homer off Shane Baz in a seven-run third and Cincinnati topped Tampa Bay for a three-game home sweep.

Moustakas connected for his 200th career homer as the Reds posted their first four-game winning streak since May 25-28..

Rookie left-hander Nick Lodolo (2-2) was the beneficiar­y of the homer barrage. In his second start since coming off the injured list and fifth overall, Cincinnati’s top 2019 draft pick allowed nine hits and three runs in five innings, striking out six.

TWINS 6, RANGERS 5 >> Ryan Jeffers hit a tiebreakin­g homer in the sixth, and visiting Minnesota beat Texas.

Jeffers, who hit a runscoring single in the second, put the Twins ahead 5-4 with a drive off Brock Burke (4-2).

ROYALS 5, GUARDIANS 1 >> Zack Greinke pitched five scoreless innings of threehit ball and host Kansas City downed Cleveland.

A day after the Guardians got a season-high 23 hits in a 13-1 romp, Greinke (3-5) and four relievers combined on a five-hitter.

Greinke struck out five and walked one in his 222nd career win.
