JOAN HOPE “JOANNIE”

-

Joan Phyllis Hope “Joannie” passed away peacefully at home on Aug. 2, 2022. She was born in Kansas to Alvin and Kathryn Myers on Oct. 11, 1934 and had four siblings she held very dear throughout her life: a brother Miles, and sisters Roxye, Jeannie (her twin) and Patti.

When Joannie was a young girl, the Myers family moved to Pomona, CA where she later met the love of her life Cecil Hope. They were married in 1953 and raised their children, Teri and Greg in Pomona. They moved to Upland in 1979 where she later passed after 68 years of marriage.

Joannie was very active raising a family, working, spending time with relatives and friends, and enjoyed golf, bowling, ping pong, card games, and many other activities. She was famous for her conversations and stories, but mostly for her constant concern for others. She was a loyal friend, and had many lifelong friendships.

She began working in her teen years and in adulthood became a dental assistant, and subsequently a school secretary at Pomona Valley Unified School District where she ultimately retired. After retirement she continued to fill in at PUSD, worked at the LA County Fair, and volunteered at the MCC Thrift Store among other activities.

In retirement, Joannie was happy to spend more time with her grandchildren taking them on vacations, fun outings, and hosting sleep overs. Joannie and Cecil loved golf and involved them in many fun golf outings.

Joannie is survived by her husband, Cecil; children Teri (husband Mike) and Greg (wife Karen); grandchildren Aaron, (wife Megan), Austin, Shawnel, and Justin, and Karen’s son Michael; great grandchildren, Makenna and Fischer, and a third due in Dec.; and sister Patti.
