Inland Empire Section of NCNW installs officers
Officers and members of the Inland Empire Section of the National Council of Negro Women Inc. attended the 54th annual community service luncheon hosted this fall by the NCNW San Diego Section.
The event, held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in San Diego, included the installation of officers of sections from across Southern California by Thelma T. Daley, the organization’s national chairman and president.
Joanne Gilbert, a legacy member and past president, was installed as president of the Inland Empire Section for the 202224 term.
Gilbert has worked and served on several committees, and the Inland Empire Section’s members are confident that she will lead the charge to advocate for and empower African American women, their families and communities, according to a news release. That work includes impacting vulnerable populations including victims of domestic violence, those who are unhoused and low-income families.
Other Inland Empire Section officers for 202224 are Amy Malone, first vice president; Robyn Caliver. second vice president; Charli Harris, third vice president; Haniyyah Mubashshir, corresponding secretary; Gwendolyn Heard Nelson, financial secretary; Milele Robertson, treasurer; Noella Buchanan, chaplain; and Natasha Broome-Shaw, parliamentarian.
The Inland Empire Section of NCNW was formed in 1967 by a group of women who came together to develop a service organization that would assist African American women and their families. They learned about NCNW founder Mary McLeod Bethune and they were inspired by the organization’s call to serve women, according to the news release.
The mission of the National Council of Negro Women Inc., founded in 1935, is to lead, develop and advocate for women of African descent as they support their families and communities.
The Inland Empire Section of NCNW meets 6 p.m. the fourth Monday of each month at Grace Vargas Senior Center, 1411 S. Riverside Ave, Rialto.
