Wicks Brewing Co. in Riverside has announced it will close after a decade in business, with its last day being Sunday.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce our closure after 10 years,” its Facebook post states. “It’s been one hell of a decade, but the time has come for us to let go.”

The exact reasons behind the brewery’s closure are not known. Wicks’ owners did not respond to requests for comment Thursday.

Wicks Brewing will be open Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.

The brewpub opened in 2013 on the western edge of Riverside, near the 91 Freeway’s Pierce Street exit, and has been active in the community.

After law enforcement officers Michael Crain and Jeremiah MacKay were slain by Christopher Dorner, a former LAPD officer whose shooting spree killed four people in 2013, the brewery created new beers in their memories.

It also donated proceeds from beer sales at a car show to the officers’ children. Last Christmas, the business teamed up with Toys for Tots as a dropoff location. Wicks Brewing hosted events such as Paint n’ Sip nights and a bimonthly Malts and Mantras yoga class.

In May, Ryan Wicks was charged with murder following a car crash in March 2022 on the 15 Freeway in Ontario. Authorities allege he was driving while drunk. Ryan Wicks was described as an owner of the brewery by the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office, but the brewery has stated that he is not an owner.

Wicks on Feb. 16 was ordered held for a trial in his criminal case. He is charged with second-degree murder and DUI causing injury or death. His next court hearing is Friday.

Posts on social media lament the brewery’s closure, and a number of Facebook comments describe fond memories of the establishment.
