Ducks' Silfverber­g to end 12-year NHL career

Ducks forward Jakob Silfverber­g says he will retire at the end of the regular season.

The 33-year-old Silfverber­g announced the decision on social media Thursday. After starting his NHL career in Ottawa, he has been with the Ducks since 2013, serving as an alternate captain for the past five years.

Silfverber­g has 158 goals and 196 assists in his tenure with the Ducks, scoring more goals than anyone on the team since his arrival 11 years ago. He is fifth in franchise history in goals, games played (769) and shots, while ranking third in short-handed goals.

Chiefs receiver Rice faces charges in Dallas crash case

Dallas police said that Kansas City Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice faces charges including aggravated assault after he and another speeding driver of a sports car caused a chain-reaction crash on a Dallas highway.

Police said that arrest warrants have been issued for the 23-yearold for one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and six counts of collision involving injury.

Rice’s attorney, state Sen. Royce West, said last week that Rice had been driving a Lamborghin­i sport utility vehicle when the crash occurred.

Arrest warrants were also issued Theodore Knox, 21, who was driving the other speeding sports car, a Corvette, police said.

• Standout pass rusher Josh Allen and the Jacksonvil­le Jaguars reached agreement on a five-year, $150 million contract that includes $88 million guaranteed. The deal makes Allen the third-highest-paid defensive player in the league in average salary behind San Francisco’s Nick Bosa and Kansas City’s Chris Jones.

Drew will remain at Baylor, pass on Kentucky opening

Scott Drew will remain as Baylor’s men’s basketball coach, stating his desire to “bring more championsh­ips” to the program on social media after being linked to the Kentucky coaching vacancy following John Calipari’s departure to Arkansas.

Drew, 53, who guided the Bears to the NCAA championsh­ip during the COVID-19-shortened 2020-21 season, quickly emerged as Kentucky’s top target to follow Calipari after the Hall of Famer and 2012 title winner stepped down on Tuesday.

Alabama’s Nate Oats and Chicago Bulls coach Billy Donovan have both been linked to the Kentucky opening but expressed commitment to their current jobs.

Djokovic grinds way into quarterfin­als at Monte Carlo

Novak Djokovic looked sluggish at times and hit several unforced errors but raised his game on important points to advance to the quarterfin­als of the Monte Carlo Masters on Thursday.

The top-ranked Serb, a two-time Monte Carlo champion, gained revenge over Lorenzo Musetti, who beat him last year at the Country Club in the third round. Djokovic converted five of six break points and progressed with a confidence-boosting 7-5, 6-3 win.

Second-ranked Jannik Sinner also advanced to the quarterfin­als with a solid 6-4, 6-2 win over Jan-Lennard Struff.

Other winners: Alex de Minaur beat Alexei Popyrin 6-3, 6-4; Karen Khachanov defeated fellow Russian Daniil Medvedev, 6-3, 7-5, and twotime Monte Carlo champion Stefanos Tsitsipas beat Alexander Zverev 7-5, 7-6 (3).

Former Inland standout Okongwu sidelined in Atlanta

The Atlanta Hawks will be without center Onyeka Okongwu and forward Jalen Johnson in the NBA Eastern Conference play-in tournament because of injuries. Okongwu (Chino Hills High), who averages 10.2 points and 6.8 rebounds, will miss at least four weeks following a non-surgical procedure on Tuesday to address inflammati­on in his left big toe. Johnson will miss at least three weeks with a sprained right ankle.

• Oklahoma State wrestling coach John Smith announced his retirement, ending a 33-year run that produced five NCAA team championsh­ips, 33 individual NCAA champions and 23 conference titles. Smith, 58, compiled a 490-73-6 dual record and coached 153 All Americans.
