More ‘Letters’ at EnActe

After a positive audience response to last month’s live-streamed performances, Sunnyvale’s EnActe Arts has scheduled more online showings of “Letters to a Daughter from Prison,” an adaptation with Stagesmith Productions in Mumbai, India of Lavonne Mueller’s play about the relationship between Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first prime minister, and his daughter Indira Gandhi, who would follow in his footsteps.

“The original play…takes place on a stage with multiple levels and with lots of characters coming in and out,” director Deesh Mariwala says. “Now, that’s not possible on Zoom, so we’ve had to adapt it quite strongly to this…talking heads format.”

“Letters to a Daughter from Prison” will be shown online Nov. 20 at 8 p.m., Nov. 21 at 5 p.m. and Nov. 29 at 10 a.m. Tickets are $15 at Eventbrite.com.

COVID-19 testing

Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian will continue providing appointment-based COVID-19 testing on a consistently scheduled, rotating basis in November and December. Test sites in Simitian’s District 5 include Murphy Park in Sunnyvale.

Testing will be conducted Monday and Dec. 14 and 28, 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m., at Murphy Park. 260 N. Sunnyvale Ave. Testing is free, and no health insurance or doctor’s note is required. Appointments are required to www.sccfreetest.org.

Appointments will be open for scheduling seven days before the testing date. Once all appointments are filled, the location will no longer appear for scheduling on the website.

“Convenience is key,” said Simitian, chair of the county’s Health and Hospital Committee. “If we want more people to be tested, providing locally available and convenient sites is essential.”
