From the Federal Programs Director

Welcome students, parents, staff, and community members to the start of a new school year at Taos Municipal Schools. On behalf of the Department of Federal Programs, I would like to express our continued commitment to the students of TMS. We look forward to working with the schools to help support our students, parents and staff throughout the school year and to seeing all of you at our various school events.

The vision and mission of Taos Municipal Schools is to inspire excellence and life-long success through teaching, learning, and collaboration by preparing all students academically, socially, physically, and emotionally to succeed as responsible citizens.

Federal Programs assists many programs throughout the school district from grades K - 12 with Federal Grants and Funds. The programs that have been supported include the Fine Arts Education Act, the Bilingual Program, Indian/Native Hawaiian and Alaska program, English Language Acquisition/Language Enhancement and Academic Achievement, preparing and training of highly qualified teachers and principals.

We are fortunate in our school settings to be able to provide several opportunities for our students at TMS. Students have the opportunity to work with “Visiting Artists” from our rich art community, participate in bilingual programs at all school sites, and work with highly qualified teachers in the classrooms. At all school sites, we are working together with local and state agencies to provide emotional and social supports for students and families. At TMS we know that a student that is supported emotionally and socially will have a greater chance at success in school and life. Two of our elementary schools, Ranchos Elementary and Enos Garcia Elementary, are becoming Community Schools to provide students and families with these much needed supports.
