Electric co-op plans fall power outages for yearly maintenance
Taos County residents and businesses should be sure to charge their phones and battery packs in September and October and don’t be alarmed when the stove clock starts flashing.
Kit Carson Electric Cooperative, the energy company serving Taos and Colfax counties, has scheduled planned power outages over the next few weeks, so crews can conduct maintenance on all of the co-op’s substations.
Kit Carson Internet residential and commercial services also will be affected as will potentially some cell towers.
The following is a schedule of dates, times and affected areas for performing the maintenance on the corresponding substations, according to Kit Carson. Arroyo Hondo Substation Date: Wednesday (Sept. 26) Time: 3 – 5 a.m. Affected areas: Arroyo Hondo, Hondo Mesa, Cabresto Canyon, San Cristobal, Lama, Questa (North on State Road 522 up to Questa Parish Center at Abra Road - North), Des Montes, Valdez, and Taos Ski Valley Bobcat Substation
Date: Thursday (Sept. 27) Time: 5 - 6 a.m.
Affected areas: Shadow Mountain and Bobcat Pass Peñasco Substation
Date: Tuesday, Oct. 2 Time: 9 - 10:30 a.m. Affected areas: Rodarte, Llano de San Juan, Llano Largo and Llano de la Llegua
Sunshine Substation
Date: Tuesday, Oct. 2 Time: 2 - 3:30 a.m. Affected areas: Questa, (Northbound from Wildcat’s Den at Abra Road on State Road 522) North to Sunshine Valley, El Rito (Latir Road), Cerro and Costilla Amalia Substation
Date: Tuesday, Oct. 2 Time: 4 - 5 a.m. Affected areas: Amalia and Ventero
Eagle Nest Substation

Angel Fire Substation
Date: Thursday, Oct. 4 Time: 3:30 - 5 a.m. Affected areas: Angel Fire, Taos Pines, Black Lake, Val Verde Subdivision, Elk Meadows and Hidden Lake Ojo Caliente Substation Date: Tuesday, Oct. 9 Time: 3-5 a.m. Affected areas: Ojo Caliente, El Rito, Vallecitos, Cañon Plaza, La Petaca, La Madera, Las Tablas, Servilleta Plaza, Carson and Pilar No Agua Substation
Date: Thursday, Oct. 12 Time: 9 - 11 a.m. Affected Areas: Residents and businesses in Tres Piedras, Los Pinos, the towers in San Antonio Mountain, the Double D Ranch and the Old Barber Ranch (Those residents who live west of the Gorge Bridge not including Carson, but those who live off of U.S. Hwy 285 — approximately 10 miles north of Suzie’s Cafe up to Los Pinos will be affected).
