More prescribed burns planned for Taos
In addition to the 2,833acre Alamosa prescribed burn planned for the Vallecitos area, the Carson National Forest has several other burns scheduled for the coming two months.
“Approximately 1,442 acres could be eligible for treatment, but the implementation of each project will only occur when weather, fuel moisture and smoke dispersal conditions are within the defined prescription parameters,” read a press release from the Carson National Forest.
The Borrego prescribed burn is located 3 miles north of Peñasco and a quarter-mile west of State Road 518 off of Forest Road 468.
The Taos Pines and Bull Springs prescribed burn units are located off State Road 64 at Palo Flechado Pass. “These units were thinned in 2014 and subsequently utilized as fuelwood areas. The plan is to burn the remaining wood to create defensible space near the communities of Taos Pines and Angel Fire, restore forest health and improve wildlife habitat,” read the press release.
Smoke may be visible from surrounding communities. Visit nmtracking.org/fire for information about how to protect your health.
