George G. Medina, 54,

- of Taos

Age 54, of Taos passed away unexpected­ly on June 24, 2020. George was a man of charisma, known for his infectious smile, his playful character and his never-ending willingnes­s to help those in need. He was a proud Canonero and a graduate of Taos High, class of 1983. After serving in the US Air Force, George came to be a beloved figure in the local snowboardi­ng and soccer communitie­s. He was a cofounder of Experience Snowboards in Angel Fire, NM and an integral member of the Free Taos campaign. He was an enthusiast­ic and well-loved snowboard instructor and race coach in both Angel Fire and Taos Ski Valley. He inspired many folks, young and old, to get out there and stretch their comfort zone on the snow. He accomplish­ed his first “Never Summer” in 2019, riding in New Mexico, Colorado and New Zealand. He was also a well-respected figure in the local building and constructi­on community with his concrete pump and as a member of the Medina & Sons Family. He was an avid traveler and adventurer, always up for a road trip on the hunt for powder. He traveled to South Korea in 2002 and Germany in 2006 for the FIFA World Cup. He was a devout man of the Catholic faith, serving as Mayordomo at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Taos and Our Lady of Sorrows in Cañon. He was a shining example who shared his special light as a son, brother, an Uncle, a husband, a friend and as a father. He will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roberto and Juanita Medina, sisters, Annabell, Janice, Georgeanna and Berlinda Medina, brother, Michael Medina, grandmothe­r, Cristina Martinez Fernandez, niece, Missy Jo Medina, and nephews, Eli and Mateo Medina. He is survived by his wife, Julie Medina, children, Zachary and Alexandra Ninneman and Jaime Medina, siblings, Cipriano Medina (Teodora), Louis Medina, Adelmo Medina, Manuel Medina (Theresa), Elizardo Medina, Efren Medina (Sandra), Sarah Martinez, Francis Medina (Brenda) and Herman Medina (Karen). He is also survived by his in-laws, Patsy Medina, Sandy Martinez, Karen Medina, Paula Garcia, Mark Martinez, and many, many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
