‘Last Supper Stew’

“I tend to document the things we don’t like to talk about. Like illness, death, the dying environment,” states photographer and filmmaker Kathleen Brennan. In her latest short documentary, created for the upcoming Contemporary Art/Taos 2020 exhibition at the Harwood Museum, she follows the last days of Cynthia K. Homire as she voluntarily stops eating and drinking – after many years of planning to go out on her own. “Last Supper Stew” pursues her end days from April 1 until her death on April 12, 2019. Taos Watercolor Society summer show

Check out the Farmhouse Café and Bakery, in the Overland Sheepskin compound, from July 1-31 for the annual Taos Watercolor Society summer show. It will feature works from many local talented painters – 16 are showing this year. Due to COVID-19, there won’t be an opening reception but come on down to enjoy a meal and the paintings at the same time. All paintings will be for sale. The café is located at 1405 Paseo del Pueblo Norte, El Prado. Also running until the end of the year, TWS has another show at the Taos Country Club. Don’t miss these new works by outstanding painters. Contact Diane Binder at sybatwing@gmail.com.

Interactive ‘capsule’ sculpture comes to Arroyo Seco

A huge sculpture powered by the burning of notes people feed into it is being built for public consumption in Arroyo Seco. Mechanical sculptor Christian Ristow and welder Christina Sporrong of Spitfire Forge (makers of works for Burning Man) are in the thick of building the contraption, which responds interactively to the combusting of personal notes, causing the gigantic hands to open, exposing its inner core, and revealing a new dynamic shape. “Capsule harnesses the transformative power of fire, not only to literally open itself, but also to send our collective hopes and dreams into the ether,” notes the official description. Capsule is supported by the Arroyo Seco Live crew, The Paseo Project, as well as

Gizmo Productions, glass artists Alex Abajian, artist and writer Erin Elder and a web design team. It promises to be unveiled in July. Got to capsuletaos.com.
