Ski valley bears down on order

The village council of Taos Ski Valley voted unanimousl­y on Thursday (July 2) to mandate masks be worn in public.

Following the state’s new public health order, the council adopted a resolution to their own health order requiring all members of the public to wear a face covering.

All visitors and residents of Taos Ski Valley over the age of 5 years old will be required to wear a mask at all times in public places. Exceptions will only be made when people are eating, drinking or exercising.

Taos Ski Valley is also encouragin­g visitors and locals to practice social distancing by remaining at least 6 feet apart from one another.

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed a new public health order Wednesday (July 1) imposing a $100 fine on those who violate the state’s order. Masks must be work in all public settings statewide, according to the governor.

In addition, the order calls for a 14-day mandatory quarantine for those traveling from out of state into New Mexico. Exemptions are made for people traveling on essential business, such as work in the medical field.
