Visual arts calendar: What’s happening where
Gallery and artist updates
• Magpie Taos gallery in the Overland Sheepskin complex on Paseo del Pueblo Norte has closed and owner, Georgia Gersh, is in no hurry to find another location. “I am a big fan of following one’s instincts and right now, mine is saying not to reopen if I don’t have to,” notes Gersh. In her attempts to continue to support her many artists, she will be posting collections available regularly starting at the end of this month on Facebook and Instagram. Contact Gersh for an update at (781) 248-0166.
• “Taos Art Insurgency: The New Protagonists” gets going this Saturday (July 18) at the spaces of Wilder Nightingale Fine Art, Dragonfly Blue and Greg Moon Art galleries, along Kit Carson Road. The show will be up until Aug. 2. Restrictions on masks and the number of persons allowed in each of the galleries at a time will be strictly enforced. You can view the show online at gregmoonart.com and get updates at info@gregmoonart.com.
• Allan Packer, a Canadian artist who lives and works in Taos, has been working on new dimensional paintings and silkscreen prints “that capture the tension of our current existence.” Packer is known for his painted, shaped canvases, often motorized in kinetic motion. See more at apacker. com.
• Dane Spangler’s high-resolution panoramas of U.S. National Parks are on view from July 18 through the end of the month at Sage Fine Art Gallery, 115C East Taos Plaza.
