Tempo’s picks for the week

Drive-in flute concert

Taos Center for the Arts presents a drive-in concert, “Nancy Laupheimer: Music for Our Time,” featuring the flutist, who is founder and president of Taos Chamber Music Group. The concert will be held on Aug. 1 at 7 p.m. for a small audience in TCA’s back lot, Paseo del Pueblo Norte. Works include J.S. Bach’s “Partita” for solo flute, Black American composer Valerie Coleman’s “Danza de la Mariposa,” Katherine Hoover’s Hopi-inspired “Spirits,” Pascal Le Boeuf’s “Vicodin” and Rhonda Larson’s “Be Still My Soul” – and Laupheimer’s own ‘‘Elegy,’’ for lives lost to racial injustice. Tickets are by donation and will be available on July 22 by contacting tcataos.org/calendar.

Taos Arts Council wins grants for local arts

The Taos Arts Council is pleased to announce its award of $6,035 from New Mexico Arts, a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts. Additional­ly the council received a $10,000 New Mexico CARES grant award to assist its personnel costs for FY21. Among the recipients are: High Road Artisans, Los Niños del Teatro Taos Children’s Theater, Mas Comunida or Peñasco Theater, Puppet Theatre los Titiritero­s; Taos Community Chorus and Taos Opera Institute; Taos Art Museum, Millicent Rogers Museum and the Harwood Museum Alliance; Society of the Muse of the Southwest,

Questa Creative Council, Taos Center for the Arts, Taos Fall Arts Festival, The Paseo Project and Wholly Rags.

Los Alamos summer virtual concert series

Enjoy some “Siberian surf rock” with humorous lyrics and danceable grooves when Los Alamos favorites Igor and the Red Elvises take the virtual stage on Friday (July 24) at 6 p.m. at the the Los Alamos Summer Virtual Concert Series presented by Toyota of Santa Fe. Next up on July 31 is DK and the Affordable­s. More virtual concerts on Fridays through Aug. 28. Lama Foundation retreat

A special online retreat takes place this weekend (July 22-26) by the Lama Foundation – where Ram Dass and friends created Be Here Now and Murshid Sam and friends created the Dances of Universal Peace – in your home. Participat­e in full-circle gatherings, special workshops with beloved Lama teachers, heart sharing in small groups and plenty of social times to catch up with each other.
