‘Paws for the Cause’ virtual fundraiser underway

- – Submitted report

Taos Feral Feline Friends announced the 16th annual “Paws for the Cause” Virtual Walkathon, which began Saturday, (Oct. 10).

Three walkers are teaming up to journey 10,000 miles on a virtual excursion taking them to all four corners of the United States: starting from Taos and stretching to Key West, Florida, to Caribou, Michigan, to Seattle, Washington, to San Diego, California, and circling back to Taos.

The virtual walkers, Susan Ammann from the Ammann Gallery, Sue Kelly from Acorn Graphics and veterinarian Dr. Kim Sides from the Salazar Road Vet Clinic, are joining forces to raise $30,000 to help homeless cats in Taos County.

Taos Feral Feline Friends is an all-volunteer charity operating a no-kill shelter for cats and a leading provider of free spay/neuter and vaccinations for the cats of Taos County.

Here’s how it works: Donors can make a monetary pledge in support of one, two or all three walkers by phoning (575) 758-3519, by posting a pledge directly on the TFFF FB page or by visiting the TFFF website. Each dollar pledged to a walker sends them forward one mile along the route. Pledges not specific to any walker will be split equally among all three. The progress of each walker will be updated on the “Paws for the Cause” Walkathon Map at TFFF’s Facebook page.

The walkathon will end on Dec. 21, or earlier, if the walkers reach their 10,000 mile goal.

Leanne Mitchell, president and founder of Taos Feral Feline Friends, said in a statement: “I am thrilled to have our team of three prominent Taos businesswomen back again. The basic pledge amount is $25 per walker, but any donation is certainly welcome.

“Frankly, I’m a little concerned because donors will not be able to sign up at local businesses as in past years due to COVID-19. However, I and our volunteers will be reaching out to people via telephone throughout the event. If you support free spay/neuter, or

our no-kill shelter or just plain love cats, this is the absolute best time to help.”
