Braden Robert Black

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved son, brother, and friend Braden Robert Black. Braden Robert died at home in Red River, NM on October 12, 2020. Anyone who knew Braden, knew his generous smile, easy nature, and long, hard, wonderful hugs. He is sadly missed by his family and numerous friends. Braden was born to Robert Parnell Black and Debra (Burrell) Black on October 28, 1979, in Laramie, Wyoming. He was a welcome and long overdue addition to an already big family. Braden was soon joined by 2 younger sisters, thus sandwiching him between his 5 sisters. This family position allowed for many an adventure while growing up in Wyoming. As a young boy he could be seen frequently sporting a cape or his absolute favorite Dukes of Hazard t-shirt. Braden was always up for a good time, and his siblings took full advantage. He spent many weekends up in Vedauwoo and Happy Jack while growing up in Laramie, enjoying family picnics, cross country skiing, and bouldering the rocks. In 1993, Braden moved with his family to Tempe, Arizona, where he continued his schooling. He quickly adapted to his new Southwest home and made many friends in Arizona. After graduating from Marcos de Niza high school, Braden then continued his education at Maricopa County Community College in Mesa, AZ. While at Mesa, he once again took up the acting that he had pursued in high school, performing excellently in many plays. After his time at MCC, he found himself trying on many jobs before settling in the Service/Hospitality Industry by managing bars and restaurants in both Arizona and New Mexico. He landed in Red River, NM, in the fall of 2008 and really found a home. He said that it most reminded him of his years growing up in Laramie, Wyoming. He filled his days with all of the local wonders of fishing, skiing, hiking, and biking. He truly loved Red River and became well known in the community, working at The Grill at the Lift House. Braden is survived by his parents, Debra and Robert Black of Sun Lakes Arizona, his siblings, Jared Black of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Whitney Parnell of Twin Falls, Idaho; Kalyn Black of Skowhegan, Maine; Kendra Sandstrom of Momence, Illinois; Kesa Young of Katy, Texas; Tamsen Bingham of Henderson, Nevada, and 15 nephews and 8 nieces. Braden is also survived by Ashley Palmer of Red River, New Mexico, his long term partner and companion and co-parent to his dog and cats. Cremation has taken place, and the family plans a ceremony to honor Braden when possible post-Covid 19. Any donations may be made in his name to your local animal shelter and to honor him—hug somebody you love today just a little too long.
