A call to abolish nuclear weapons

- By Jean E. Stevens theglobeandmail.com/opinion/ article-nuclear-weapons-are-a-disgrace-to-humanity-banning-themis-the-only/#_=_. youtube.com/ watch?v=HI1KPzfSpYs. Jean E. Stevens is the director of the Taos Environmental Film Festival.

Ifeel compelled to discuss the Santa Fe New Mexican interview with Dr. Thom Mason that was published in the Taos News, Nov. 7, 2020. As the director of the Los Alamos National Laboratory, his salary is probably close to $2 million annually (based on former LANL directors’ salary). He has a vested interest in the expansion of LANL and the current efforts to create many weapons of mass destruction.

The humanitarian scientist, Albert Einstein, wanted all nuclear bombs abolished, please see attached. The list of respected nuke abolitionists also includes the Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu, Representative John Lewis, Pope Francis and Dr. Martin Luther King to name just a few. Please see the NY Times article from Sept. 20, 2020, entitled “Former World Leaders Urge Ratification of Nuclear Arms Ban Treaty”: nytimes. com/2020/09/20/world/treaty-nuclear-arms-united-nations.html

In addition, I am also including a recent article from an esteemed Nobel Peace laureate and a Canadian Physician for Social Responsibility, John Polanyi. He articulates the dangers of nuclear proliferation much better than I can via the Canadian newspaper, Globe and Mail dated Nov. 24, 2020, “Nuclear Weapons are a Disgrace to Humanity, Banning Them is the Only Way Forward”:

If the global coronavirus pandemic has taught us nothing else, it is that unlikely and unexpected events are not only possible but can happen at any moment. It is now time that the billions of dollars, needlessly spent on nuclear weapons, go towards education, health care and global humanitarian needs across our planet. On Jan. 22, 2021, the Treaty for the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons will go into force. Citizens of the world must unite and tell the nine nuke possession countries that nuclear weapons are a crime against humanity. A link here shows how you can help, a one minute, 30-second video:
