‘Bring Taos Home’

Town of Taos holiday packages issued around Thanksgiving were snapped up, said A. Karina Armijo, director of marketing and tourism for the town of Taos.

“The ‘Bring Taos Home’ gift box was a way to celebrate and support the community of local product makers that embody the Taos spirit,” Armijo said. “And, to keep Taos top of mind for people that want to travel again as soon as it is safe. We’ve had an incredible response with 90 percent of the buyers from out of state. This tells us people really love Taos and bringing a little bit of Taos into their home both supports our local businesses and reminds them of how special Taos is.”

Armijo said the town will continue its efforts “through the winter to push shopping Taos businesses to our fans outside of the state until it is safe to travel.” For more info, email aarmijo@ taosgov.com or call (575) 737-5849.

Support for shopping local businesses is also being pushed statewide. “While ‘home for the holidays’ has a different meaning in 2020, New Mexicans can share the holiday spirit through online experiences and buying friends and family gifts online from local small businesses,” said Cabinet Secretary Jen Paul Schroer in a press release Dec. 3.

Most of the Taos holiday packages sold out, but there are plenty of our Taos merchants eager to supply totally Taos gifts and traditional treats.

Shoppers can easily find awesome gift ideas by perusing Taos museum and shops online. Art and art wear, winter gear, groovy gadgets and more are readily available (see Taos Aglow, pages 30-39 for great listings of what Taos has to offer – complimentary issues are located throughout the county). And don’t forget Arroyo Seco, Ranchos de Taos, Red River, Angel Fire and Taos Ski Valley shops and galleries).
