TAOS ANIMAL SHELTER OVERRUN WITH PUPPIES

“We got another 29 puppies last week,” said Stray Hearts Executive Director Donna Karr. “There was even a box of puppies found in a dumpster almost frozen. We are thankful that so many people have signed up to foster or we would never keep up. We have to transfer a lot of them out because we don’t have enough spay/neuter services available to do them here without keeping them weeks longer during a very important socializing period of their lives.” The shelter is working on a puppy socializing program and larger play space. Karr said a lot of adoptions are pending, with a backlog that need spays and neuters before they can go to their new homes. The shelter is raising funds to hire a full-time veterinarian. The Cat Cafe has reopened and four kittens were adopted from there the first day, Karr said.
