The new freedom during COVID

Our new freedom has been given to us in a tiny package. The previously unlimited space and global fancy with which we were able to live our lives, has shut down. Now we are confined to whatever indoor space we have created for ourselves and our local garden, mountain forest or cityscape that is just outside our door.

Confinement, restrictions, boundaries, constraints and limitations are all the orders of the day. We are not prisoners, though. As a human body, we are choosing this tiny package because we understand that it is paramount for the greater good.

The first piece of our new freedom is understanding that we stand together or we don't stand at all. We are a human body and organism and, like small naughty children when parents blame the whole group for whatever misbehavior has occurred, we are all in the same boat. In our physical isolation we have the chance to be more consciously connected to our fellow beings than we've ever been.

The new freedom is best understood by looking at poetry. Poems don't exist without self-imposed confinement, restrictions, boundaries, constraints and limitations. Our new freedom can be found as we seek the poetry inside each of us. We can create our lives into unlimited possibility using the limited structures we've chosen to be bound by.

Poets don't use all the words and concepts that exist. Instead they give us giant truths in small pieces. Our small lives are now like poems and if we understand this and embrace it, then we will be able to live as the poems we are.

Our new freedom comes to us through accepting that this time of quarantine is like the jeweled ring the suitor offers their beloved. It is a small gift that carries the expansive vision and all the possibility of a life together implicit in the little ring.

We are allL being offered a ring by the Universe.

Our earth and nature and the birds and the waters and air and planet and God and angels and light and love are all offering us the chance to do this right.

Can we make this promise?
