Andean Software

- BY TEMPO STAFF and-the-west.com.

THIS SEASON, Andean Software begins its 37th winter in Taos Ski Valley and its 10th in the town of Taos. Besides all the usual goods they are known for, Andean Software now has beautiful Irish hats, scarves and blankets from two of Ireland’s most famous mills – Foxford and Mucros.

“We still, of course, have our beautiful Bolivian alpaca sweaters and Peruvian goods, although COVID has been raging there along with ongoing political problems. But we continue to support our wonderful artisans and cooperatives we have personal connections with,” Andrea Heckman told Tempo.

Heckman selects each piece personally when she travels every year to meet with her artisans and suppliers from Bali, India, Ireland, Mexico, Turkey and the United States.

All the pieces she chooses complement the Peruvian sweaters and coats made from the finest alpaca the store is famous for.

The film she produced, “Bon and the West,” was recently an Official Selection in the Society for Visual Anthropology Film and Media Festival (online), and was included in the Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (online).

This year, we all want to be coddled by the comfort of cozy wool knits, and everyone on your list would appreciate something handmade, practical and reassuringly soft and warm this holiday season.

In-store shopping and curbside pickup, plus delivery are available during COVID. Masks required.
