Wolfgang’s Spa Works A Rock-solid Tradition in Taos

-

There are a few businesses that are thriving during the pandemic. One of them is the home spa. People are hunkered down at home and concerned about maintaining their health and equilibrium during these topsy turvy times. Taos with all the rigorous outdoor activities available is a perfect place to own a hot tub and sauna to warm your bones and soak sore muscles after a hard day on the slopes, rafting a box canyon or hiking Wheeler Peak.

Since 2001 Wolfgang’s has been the go-to place to get your hot tub. Owners Wolfgang and Neil Collins have worked to secure the existence and future of a rocksolid dealership here in Taos. Wolfgang’s Spa Works does it all, from advising you about what you may need, to maintaining and repairing hot tubs. They move around town in their distinctive chevy service trucks, alway available to answer questions before you take the plunge and long after the installation has taken place. In short, they are a Taos family run business, inspired to do what they do to be a part of the community’s well being.

Wolfgang said these pandemic days caused his business to stall initially. “We were really dead when the shutdown first happened and then really busy when the stimulus checks came out. Throughout the whole year we’ve been continuing to clean and repair hot tubs. So we’re doing well, but we’re looking forward to things returning to normal.”

A family owned business has the benefit of easy transitions from sales to repair to customer service. Wolfgang’s son Neil greatly expanded the online presence of Wolfgang’s Spa Works. The result has been especially good with people reluctant to do their shopping in person during these pandemic days. You can research hot tubs and communicate directly with the shop. There is even a virtual tour of the shop available so you can literally look around as if you were in the store in person. In addition, you can also see reviews from happy customers.

Wolfgang’s Spa Works features only the top of the brands of hot tubs with names like Hot Spring and Nordic, plus infrared and traditional steam saunas by Finnelo and Saunatec. Wolfgang deals only with these companies “to ensure that our hot tubs and saunas are the most dependable in northern New Mexico. All of our service and maintenance is done by factory trained technicians.”

Wolfgang said a purchase from Wolfgang Spa Works is only the beginning of a customer service relationship. There is a learning curve to owning a sauna or hot tub. You’ll find helpful information on their website but Wolfgang and his team of technicians is always on call for any issues that arise after the unit is installed. No question is left unanswered and his team is only happy with the results, when you are.

When asked how the industry has evolved from when they started over 20 years ago, Wolfgang said “hot tubs have gotten more energy efficient with better cleaning technology and ease-of-care advances. The overall experience is that they are much easier to own with far less hassle.”

Wolfgang’s son, Neil sees the business evolving with the times. “There’s a load of new options for water care that no longer require lots of chemicals. Natural salt systems that integrate with the hot tub, ozone, silver and minerals. Hot tubs are a place where people connect with nature and their families. Why ruin that experience with tons of harsh chemicals? A hot tub should help you retreat from the globo-corporate screen-laden mess that we all have to deal with.”

Neil said he defines success as “when all the bills are paid, you have enough savings for 3 months of operations, the online reviews are positive, your employees are happy and your customers are knocking down your door because you do what you said you were going to do. Our absolute favorite part of the job is delivering a tub to someone’s home. It makes people so happy.” He advised the best time to invest in a spa is “yesterday. Today is the second best. Don’t wait until tomorrow. It’s one of the few things out there that consistently makes you feel better. Nobody ever regrets soaking in a hot tub.”

Wolfgang’s Spa Works is at 1210 J Salazar Rd. Phone 575.758.1857 and their website is wolfgangspas.com
