Jane A. Cohn

-

Ranchos Valley onto the most beautiful of mountains she called home for 74 years. Jane’s life was all-encompassing. In the ‘60s she had the opportunity to travel to Europe and lived in Germany for a short time as a young woman. One of her most notable stories of that time is receiving letters from Taos of “wild hippies’’ hanging around the Taos Plaza. Jane mentioned her first day back from Germany was enjoyed by sitting on a park bench in the Plaza just watching the new folks in town. Soon after she captured the attention of a handsome and highly spirited local bachelor-Bobby Cohn. They married and she immersed herself in all his loves and interests. Surprisingly, she came to be a biker mama in the mid-’70s with a then notorious biker club remembered to the most rooted of locals as the Mountain Rats. The Mountain Rats embraced all walks of life and she took pleasure in making new friends and hosting eventful potlucks. Most importantly, because she lost both her parents in her early years to cancer, she enjoyed the weekly family gatherings for a bit of poker and grandma Cohn’s sabroso dinners. The ‘80s were spent mingling with some of Taos’ legendary artists of that time and serving some of the best tequila cocktails at the late iconic restaurant La Cocina which was located on the Taos Plaza. Her friendships from those days have been everlasting. By the time the ‘90s rolled around, she spent her time trying to keep abreast of two curious teenage girls and a handful of their lifelong friends. Jane often brought her daughters’ friends, nephews, and nieces into her home to live whenever they found a need for support. Later in the decade, she became a delighted grandmother making herself entirely available to her eldest daughter. She was devoted to being the greatest of grandmothers. Jane was encouraging to her youngest and lived vicariously through her daughter’s ceaseless desire for travel. Most recently, many will remember Jane helping at the local Walmart pharmacy where she worked over 25 years making the dearest of friends. It was during this time while working she fell victim to the latest and deadliest pandemic of our time. Jane tragically died from Covid-19 on November 30, 2020, at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. She is preceded in death by her eternal love Robert “Bobby” Lee Cohn, parents George & Ignacia Torres, father-in-law Robert A. Cohn, brother-in-law George Cohn, paternal grandparents Julian & Eolojia Torres, maternal grandparents Dave & Utimia Fresquez, birth grandparents Clemente and Maria Encarnacion Martinez.

She left behind her two daughters Tanya Lee Cohn, Camille D. Cohn (Blair Bouchier), and granddaughter Aubrey’L Lee Cohn. Jane is remembered with love by her birth brother Robert “Bob” Garcia (Carmen Montoya), mother-in-law Elisa “Amparo” Cohn, sister-in-law Theresa L. Cohn (Nick Medina). She will forever be remembered by brothers-in-law Michael Cohn, Steve Cohn, and Richard Cohn (Joyce Griego). Jane will be deeply missed by her aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends who were always available to help her with her endless honey-do list.
