The Virtual Roundhouse of New Mexico kicked off Monday ( Jan. 11) with excitement and optimism from organizers and speakers. Despite the continuing complications brought on by COVID-19, the moderators were quick to point out there are still ways for the public to connect to state legislators.

“One of our goals is to allow the public to get involved in the legislative process,” said Kathy Komoll, CEO of the New Mexico Hospitality Association.

After introductions, the Roundhouse commenced with this year’s speakers, which included Jen Schroer, the secretary of the department of tourism, Ashley

Wagner of the New Mexico Chamber of Commerce, and several other prominent voices in the New Mexico economy.

Among the highlights of the first day of this 10-week event, was a look at the Economic Recovery Plan for the New Mexico tourism industry, which included comments from Courtney Tucker, executive director of Taos Ski Valley

Chamber of Commerce.

“We look forward to continuing to work with New Mexico Tourism through the pandemic and beyond,” said Tucker as part of Schroer’s presentation on the state’s tourism campaign, New Mexico True.

The Virtual Roundhouse of New Mexico is free and open to the public. The digital conference runs through March 20, and a one-time registration allows access to the entire event, which includes Q and A sessions with legislators, presentations from cabinet members and digital chats with event speakers.
