New inventory: Ron Lopez

203 Fine Art has recently added a group of sculptures by Taos-based artist Ron Lopez, and on view in the gallery through Jan. 31 as a part of its current exhibition. “We are pleased to offer these affordable smaller-scale works, created by the artist in 2020,” the gallery states in a press release. “The forms of Lopez’ wood and steel sculptures are both elegant and playful, expressionistic and geometric. Of his creative process, Lopez says, ‘I make a piece, and in a few days, when I come back to it, if it still excites me, I think – well it works. Then, I just keep going.’” To view Lopez’ works, visit his artist page on the website.

Also on view at 203 Fine Art through Jan. 31 are paintings by Tom Dixon, select items from the R.C. Ellis estate, and works on paper and collages by Beatrice Mandelman from the Bea Mandelman estate. Open daily, by appointment, 203 Fine Art is located at 1335 Gusdorf Road, Suite i, in Taos. For more information, see the Events page on their website 203FINEART.com. DAAC director Albers retires

Kathleen Albers, executive director and longtime supporter of Doña Ana Arts Council (DAAC) in Las Cruces since 1998, has accepted early retirement and leaves the organization the end of March 2021. In press materials, Albers acknowledged that being with DAAC “has allowed me to follow my passion for arts education,” noting she developed programs for children and adults, raised funds, publicized events and recruited participants for many arts endeavors. She is particularly proud of the restoration and management of the Rio Grande Theatre, developing Opera Storytellers Camp and the Feed Your Mind series.

Current DAAC executive director Greg Smith said he is grateful for the work Albers did over more than 20 years, “to secure a place in our community for the arts.”

Arts council board president Dan Lere said “We wish her the best, as we know that she will remain active in our community.”

Doña Ana Arts Council and DAAC Arts & Cultural Center is at 250 W. Amador Ave., Las Cruces; PO Box 1721, Las Cruces, NM 88004. Go to daarts.org or call 575523-6403.
