Ernesto Romero

-

Nuestro Dios todo poderoso llamó uno de ‘Los Tres Mineros’ a su casa, y se fue contento, chiflando, y bailando. El Cariñoso Patron Ernesto Romero, 90 passed away peacefully at his home March 11, 2021 following a lengthy illness. Born, raised, and living in Llano Largo, NM, Ernesto happily lived a fruitful life ranching and mining all the while enjoying ‘going to his country’. In his earlier adult years, Ernesto worked herding sheep in Wyoming. He was then drafted into the U.S.Army serving during the Korean Conflict guarding U.S. aircraft in France. Following his military service, Ernesto used the G.I. Bill to learn carpentry which, like hunting and fishing, he very much enjoyed. He then worked at a few silver mines in Montana. After 22 years of service, Ernesto joyfully retired in 1981 from the Kerr-McGee Corporation Uranium Mine in Grants, NM to fully celebrate life with his devoted wife, family, and friends at his ranch in Llano Largo. Ernesto is fondly remembered for whistling while working, whether it be riding horses, fishing, hunting, checking on the cattle, or irrigating his cherished land. Ernesto was preceded in death by his son Joseph Ernest Romero, parents Jose Pablo Sr. and Margarita Romero, sisters Selina (Jose) Padilla, Marina (Epimenio) Cruz, brother-in-law Leo Steinberg, and sister-in-law Julia Romero. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Maria Andreita Romero, daughters Maria (Frank) Jasen, Hazel (Kevin) Cope, Ellen (George) Devis, sons Clyde (Cecilia) Romero, Christopher (Euphrasia) Romero, Kenneth (Paula) Romero, brothers Jose Pablo Romero Jr., Miguel (Doris) Romero, Policarpio (Juanita) Romero, sister Felicia Steinberg, ten loving grandchildren, four beloved great grandchildren, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
