2021 Chamber Music Festival

Taos School of Music announced the reopening of its school and its 58th annual Chamber Music Festival for the 2021 summer season. The 19 students participat­ing this summer come from major music schools from across the United States. Most of the students were invited to attend last year’s school, which was canceled because of the coronaviru­s pandemic. Concerts will take place Saturdays and Sundays in June, July and August. Returning faculty are the Borromeo String Quartet, the Shanghai Quartet, Brentano String Quartet, violinist Ara Gregorian and pianists Robert McDonald and Thomas Sauer. • PAPNM (Plein Air Painters of New Mexico) offers socially-distanced painting in Jemez Springs April 17-22, ending in a free-admission show at Jemez Fine Art Gallery, 17346 State Road 4 in Jemez Springs, from April 24-May 7, 2021. The “en plein air” paint-out areas include Fenton Lake, Battleship Rock, Soda Dam, Bandelier National Monument, Gilman Tunnels, the Jemez Historic site, numerous fishing and picnic areas along the Jemez river, the Valles Caldera and Jemez Falls. The public is invited to see the artists work from a socially responsibl­e distance. All can join as an artist member ($40 annual membership fee) and register to papnm.org; bit.ly/papnm.

• Call for Window installati­ons. The Paseo Project is seeking proposals for future Window Installati­ons at 107 Civic Plaza Drive (”the old PD”). All themes welcome; $500 stipends provided. • Ammann Gallery, a well-establishe­d gallery in business for 17 years in the John Dunn Shops, has an opening for a new member artist/craftsman. Membership involves one-day-a-week commitment to work the gallery and “we are certified in COVID-Safe Practices. • TFAF volunteers sought: Taos Fall Arts Festival, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, in its 47th year, dedicated to the celebratio­n of all arts’ expression, seeks volunteers for its committees, Board of Directors and annual 10-day fall event. • Harwood’s ‘In the Sliver of the Sun,’ features Bosnian-Herzgovini­an artist Maja Ruznic’s paintings through Sept. 26. Ruznic uses thin stains and washes of acrylic and oil to create the initial compositio­ns for these works of scumbling, layering and sanding. Ruznic lives and works in Roswell.

• Millicent Rogers Museum: Vista Grande High School art teacher Dawning Pollen Shorty’s museum studies class in MRM galleries; students receive materials and guest speakers series, including MRM Board of Trustees member David Anderson.
