Taos rocked the nation (and quite possibly the world!) with our yearlong “Remarkable Women of Taos” campaign in 2012, celebrating Northern New Mexico’s wonderful women – mothers, educators, artists, organizers, legislators of every stripe and more.

“Taos Woman” magazine, published by the Taos News every year since 2012, also created the annual Taoseña Awards for eight women of impact, nominated and ultimately chosen for recognition by a committee of their peers – previous Taoseña Award honorees.

This year’s Selection Committee was composed of five 2020 honorees: Michele Hunt, Jacqueline McHorse, Ernestina Córdova, Nikki Ross and Lisa Abeyta-Valerio, all organized by Anita Bringas, a 2019 Taoseña honoree.

COVID lockdowns prevented gathering for the nominations and voting, so Bringas Zoomed 2020’s Taoseña Award honorees, pooled their nominations and emailed the committee for final votes. She then put it all together into a results survey, created spread sheets and individual submission PDFs and then manually tallied a count of each submission, coming up with our 2021 Eight Women of Impact for this 9th annual Taos Woman event. Thank you Anita and Selection Committee members for your excellent work!

Be sure to check out the 2021 Taoseña Awards, live-recorded yesterday (March 24) at Sabroso Restaurant by Taos’ own Razor Sharp audio/visual team and available on the Taos News Facebook page.
