Ronald Gene Pockrandt

-

On Thursday, March 25, 2021, Ronald Gene Pockrandt, loving father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 83. Ron was born on February 3, 1938 in Los Angeles, CA to Hubert and Elizabeth Pockrandt. Ron served his country, by joining the United States Navy, when he was 17. One of his favorite things to talk about were the places he visited while in the Navy. After his four years in the Navy, he had several jobs, but his favorite was working for North American Aviation, building tools. While working there, he was, at one time, contracted by NASA to help build the Apollo command and service module, something he was very proud of. He married the love of his life, Natalia Sanchez on February 4,1961. Ron and Nat moved to Red River in 1967 and began ‘building’ a future. Red River Construction Company was born and Ron started building homes and businesses all over the Red River area. He was a big part of building Red River the way it is now. They added to their family in 1972 when they adopted Jennifer Leigh Pockrandt, and again in 1978 when they adopted Ronald Paul Pockrandt. With children in the picture, he soon became ‘Pops’ and the name stuck. Pops had many passions, hot rods, motorcycles and fishing. But the biggest was skiing. He owned and operated Rio Costillo Ski School, along with two other partners, from 1983 to 1986. He was also involved at the Red River Ski Area, starting at ski patrol and then moving to director of Ski School. Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Natalia, his parents, and his brother, Dick. He is survived by his family; brother Don Pockrandt and sister-in-law Pat, a son Ronnie, his wife Rebecca, and a daughter Jennifer. Along with six grandchildren, Cruz, Raiden and Antonio Vigil and Ryleigh, Blayke and Rydge Pockrandt. There will be a memorial service, the time and date are to be determined.
