Scores and records Aug. 31 – Sept. 9

-

It was a tough night for the Tigers on the soccer pitch. They took their first loss of the season to put their record at 4-1. The loss was at home to the St. Michael’s Horsemen, out of Santa Fe, by a score of 3-1.

The game began with spirited play from both sides and, at half, the score reflected the even matchup, reading 1-1. But two quick goals in the second half pushed the Horsemen into the lead, which they never let up on.

Though it was a tough night in the net for Tigers’ star keeper Jade Maris, the score doesn’t do justice to her stellar performance. Three balls got by her, but she snagged six out of the air.

RECORDS: T 2-0, WLV 0-3

The Tigers volleyball team took to their home court on Tuesday evening (Aug. 31) to face off against their rivals, the West Las Vegas Dons. It was an eerie sight at first; both teams filing into a near empty arena, fully-masked and socially-distant (a practice that remained throughout the matches,) but the Tigers and the Dons brought the energy and by the time the JV teams were walking off the court, the Tigers were in good spirits.

On the strength of Coach Anita Rodriguez’s coaching and the strong leadership of senior captain Deaniela Cortez, not to mention rising sophomore star Kiona Ely, who dominated up front, the Tigers rolled to a victory. THS rattled off two easy set wins to cap off the evening with a 3-1 win and push their record to 2-0 on the year.

It was a tough opening game for the Questa High School Wildcats, who lost a stunner to the McCurdy Bobcats at home, 52-0. The Wildcats now sport a 0-1 record. They take the field next at Thoreau in a non-league challenge on Friday (Sept. 10). Questa will meet a Hawks team coming off a 52-14 non-league loss to Hot Springs (Truth or Consequences, NM).
