Glynda Lou Frix McBurnette

-

Also known as “Good Witch Glynda”, aged 82, of Lafayette, IN, passed away peacefully in her home on March 26, 2022, She was surrounded by her family who adored her. The cause of death was simply the natural, inevitable ending of a life well lived. Glynda Lou was born in Gadsden, AL. She played bass clarinet in the All-State Band and graduated from Emma Sansom High School in 1957. Her earliest memory was of VJ Day, and a small American flag she got at a parade, which she kept. She was known for her beautiful, titian-colored hair. A fateful meeting at a traffic light brought Harvey Otis McBurnette, Jr. into her life, and they were married in 1959, a union that lasted until his death in 1997. They had two children – Martin Tracy and Kelly Jean. Always conscientious and efficient, Glynda Lou excelled in office administration. She worked at WGAD Radio in Gadsden where she enjoyed writing commercials. Later, her husband became a successful artist, she his business manager, and they relocated to Northern NM. After his death, she worked as the Municipal Clerk for the Village of Eagle Nest in NM. She later lived with her daughter’s family in El Paso, TX, Ithaca, NY, and Lafayette, IN. Glynda Lou was predeceased by her parents, William Stephen Frix and Ora Mae Lovvorn Frix, of Gadsden, AL, and Harvey Otis McBurnette, Jr. of Eagle Nest, NM. She is survived by her son, Martin Tracy McBurnette, and daughter, Kelly Jean McBurnette-Andronicos (Christopher), grandsons, Orion Jeffrey Andronicos (Silvia Cavedon) and Aidan Harvey Andronicos. To her family she leaves her undaunted sense of optimism, bold style, curiosity about nature, joyful disposition, and her cornbread recipe with salt, because cornbread is not cake. Her best advice – “it can always be worse!” Resilience. When you’re down, take the best of what you have and make it better. Glynda Lou’s favorite things included: gardening, playing in the dirt, insects (with the exception of spiders), gemstones and jewelry, cut crystal, vintage cars, guitar music, second hand stores, dogs, old movies, a good tomato, beans and cornbread, onion rings, and butter pecan ice cream. Above all, she enjoyed having a good time, especially with her grandsons, whom she continually made laugh, especially with her Alabama accent. She is missed.
