New management, same great customer service
T“The rumors are true and we’re making it official: We are the new leadership team of Phoenix Mechanical,” announced Kabir Cain, Jason Struck and Ky Sturges.
As of January 2022, Taos icon Bob Draper handed over the reins of
the business he established 50 years ago to this dedicated and talented
trio of long-time employees. Draper’s retirement had been in the works for
a while, the three said, but making it happen was a bit complicated.
“There were a lot of meetings preceding the move,” recalled Cain. “What would it take to make the transition possible? Who was willing and able to sail this ship?”
In the end, Phoenix Mechanical found its ideal stewardship. Cain’s
troubleshooting and diagnostic expertise, Struck’s command of plumbing
and pipefitting, and
Sturges’ encyclopedic knowledge of mechanical supply chains make for a
formidable partnership to carry the business into the future.
Phoenix Mechanical is one of the oldest and most successful local businesses serving Taos and surrounding environs, offering licensed heating, plumbing, electrical and mechanical
support to residential and commercial customers. In addition to HVAC
installations and repairs, you can turn to them for help with your septic, boiler, water well, sprinkler, and electrical systems and installations.
“We all started as employees of Phoenix, so we understand the
business aspects, the unique needs of the community, and we know the clients,” Struck said. Cain agreed,
saying, “The biggest adjustment was changing our personal ‘labels,’ from what we used to do, to being the owners and managers.”
The transition to Phoenix’s new ownership comes at a time when
business is more bustling than ever. The team noted the increased
activity in the real estate market, the desire to renovate spurred by more
time spent at home, and new COVID-related air exchange requirements for public buildings as some of
the key elements that have kept business humming.
But whether dealing with new home builders
and buyers, or those who wish to repair or upgrade their existing domiciles, the staff can tackle it all. “The versatility and
talent of our employees is the key to Phoenix’s success. Everyone is fullservice but, of course, most have a specialty so we can deploy according to need,” explained Cain.
Their enormous warehouse and sheet metal shop are overseen by Sturges, who anticipates how the distinctive cherry-red trucks are to be
stocked according to the day’s pending work orders. And he’s also always
available to guide do-it-yourselfers who stop in to the DIY Shop seeking advice and quality appurtenances and fixtures from name brands like Moen, Kohler, American Standard and Delta Faucets.
Beyond the collective years of staff experience and abundance of quality
parts and materials, the three find Phoenix’s greatest strength lies in
the peerless reputation that Draper fostered and to which they remain committed.
“Here at Phoenix Mechanical, we know that when a home or business owner asks us for help, it is a
sign of respect. We aim to meet that respect with our highest standards of courtesy and professionalism every
single time,” their website’s homepage proudly proclaims.
Phoenix Mechanical is one of the largest independent employers of local talent in the region and if you
think you might be a good fit in this family of skilled mechanics and technicians, then stop in. They would love to hear from you. (Lorelei, the
shop pup, would appreciate a scratch behind the ears while you’re there.)
