Eighth-grader, Celina Strosphere, in two plate appearances had one hit and scored one run.The Lady Tigers were aggressive baserunners on the diamond as they stole 15 bases total, with Mondragon accounted for six of those 15.
Sandoval threw 113 pitches, gave up nine hits and four runs, and struck out seven batters. Her day was only beginning. She still had to pitch the second game of the doubleheader. Sandoval has been a workhorse for the Lady Tigers this season. This is not the first or second time she has pitched back-to-back games of a doubleheader. She did it against Santa Fe Indian School and Los Alamos.
In the second game, Sandoval threw fewer pitches and allowed fewer runs. Heading into the final inning, she was on the verge of throwing a complete game shutout. There were two outs, but there were runners in scoring position for the Elkettes. Pojoaque kept extending the inning by hitting
short grounders, which the Lady Tigers could not successfully convert into a game-ending out. The bases were loaded, with one out left, and Taos was only up 6-2. A last-chance grand slam could tie the game and force extra innings. Instead, another grounder was hit to an infielder, who secured the out and completed the sweep of the Lady Elkettes.
After throwing her 208th pitch, Sandoval got her second win of the day. The Lady Tigers improve to 8-12 for the season.
