Please vote for the best candidate for District 5

- By Mary Trujillo Mascareñas Mary Trujillo Mascareñas lives in Llano and is the mother of District 5 county commission candidate Ronald J. Mascareñas.

Our son, Ronald J. Mascareñas, is a candidate for County Commissioner for District 5. Ron has been an active registered Democrat since he was of age to vote. He has been married to Liza, his wife, for 34 years. We are proud of him as a respectful family man. Together they have three daughters; Sasha is a National Certified Land Appraiser, Ashley served in the U.S. Army and Jasmine is a Doctor of Physical Therapy in Arizona. They all have given them grandchildren to enjoy and teach them what a family can do together.

Ron, as he is known by many, has always given his time to help and train students. While he lived in Rio Rancho, both Ron and Liza coached kids in track and field activities. They became involved with the national track and field organization. He was a regional and national officer for many years. While serving as such, he brought the organization and kids from all around the U.S. to Albuquerque. This earned him an award from the City of Albuquerque for helping advertise the city and bring much needed funds to the area.

He is always ready to assist people in their needs. As a high school student and basketball player, he acted to help Coach Abreau when someone slit his tires and egged his vehicle. He went home and got some tires and the next day, helped to wash the coach’s vehicle. If he is traveling home and someone is in need of help, he’ll stop to take care of them. Neil Thielke is always proud to account how Ronnie came to his aid when he was a young boy. He grew up respecting people, especially women and senior citizens.

Ronnie has been involved in serving the acequias as president of the commission. He also was elected by the people to be on the Board for the Agriculture Department.

He has been a school bus driver for students and has supported the students in their ventures in the 4-H Club.

He learned from the best, he says of his Grandpa Virgilio Trujillo, who was one of the founders of Kit Carson Electric Cooperative and one of the founders of the Peñasco Independent School District, where he also served on the board. His dad, Ambrose, served as Magistrate for 14 years and was Taos County Manager when they got funding for Holy Cross Medical Center. I, Mary, have served the community in many areas. While serving as school board member, I was named as School Board Member of the Year in 2018. This is just the tip of the list.

Please vote for the best candidate.
