The 12U Ice Tigers are on a three-game winning streak, outscoring opponents 19-8.

Against Rio Rancho and Santa Fe

On Saturday afternoon (Feb. 18), the Ice Tigers faced-off against the New Mexico Ice Scorpions in Rio Rancho, where the Scorpions took an early 2-0 lead.

Addison Archuleta shifted the momentum with two goals 10 seconds apart late in the first period. Taos gained the lead early in the second period on a goal by Marcelo Richert, but the Scorpions evened it up late in the second period.

Archuleta and Richert both were able to complete their hat tricks in the third period and finish off the Scorpions 6-3 in the process. Ice Tiger goalie Troy Edmiston made several outstanding glove saves during the game and earned an assist on one of Richert’s goals.

That morning, the U12s took the ice in Santa Fe. Emi Peña got Taos on the board early with a goal assisted by Richert. With 2:53 left in the first period, Nash Acedo scored a gritty goal while diving across the ice to bang the puck into the net. Peña and Richert each added goals before the first period ended for a 4-1 Taos lead. Emery-Crowther and Leif Hurtado picked up assists.

Santa Fe scored twice in the second period to make the score 4-3 before Taos closed out the game 7-3 on three unanswered tallies on goals by Peña, Richert and Case Cook. Peña’s efforts in the four-point victory were rewarded with a hat trick.

One loss, one win against Los Alamos

After losing their first matchup against Los Alamos the morning of Feb. 5, the Tigers came out motivated for the second game that afternoon, taking a commanding 4-0 lead in the first period on goals by Elia Hurtado, Kellen EmeryCrowther and Marcelo Richert with two for an early brace.

Richert scored two more in the third period and the Junior Ice Tigers skated away with a 6-2 victory.
