Annual pond skim concludes Angel Fire ski season
Angel Fire Resort wrapped up the 2023-24 winter season with a fun weekend of spectator-friendly activities to say goodbye to ski season and wave a hello to spring.
The resort held its annual “End of Season Pond Skim,” featuring ambitious skiers and snowboarders vying for prizes by gliding across a man-made pond (with varying degrees of success). Extra consideration was given to participants who traversed the frigid water upright, wore wacky costumes and performed creative launches out of the pool.
This year, the pond was constructed on an approach to a steep drop area resembling an infinity pool. It was also positioned directly under the ski lift, so riders were treated to an extraordinary, if shortlived, view of the action as they rode their way up the mountain.
Later in the day, as operations were coming to a close and ski patrol swept the slopes for skiers and riders, bikers were allowed to ride the Chile Express lift up the mountain for a special downhill bike race.
Starting at the same time, riders rode “Headin’ Home” to “Exhibition.” Despite this being touted as a downhill race with a prize attached, the event turned out to be more of a unique experience shared by biking enthusiasts of all skill levels.
Angel Fire resort is now closed for the winter season, and will shift gears as it prepares for its upcoming spring and summer seasons.
