GA grad Cameron Ayers leading Bucknell basketball
BUCKNELL Senior guard Cameron Ayers (Germantown Academy) leads the Bison men’s basketball team in both scoring (15.8 points per game) and rebounding (4.6 per game).
Sophomore outfielder Ryan Otis (La Salle) is 0-for-5 in his first two games for the Bison baseball team (0-3).
Freshman Seline Tan Torres (Methacton) finished fifth in the 800-meter run (2:19.07) and seventh in the 500-meter dash (1:19.90) when the Bison women’s track team competed in the Youngstown Invitational in Ohio. MARIST Freshman Meredith Wurtz (Penn Charter), a Lafayette Hill resident, enjoyed a very successful weekend at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at Erie Community College in Buffalo, N.Y. in helping the Red Foxes women’s team earn the school’s 100th MAAC championship, Wurtz helped the women place first in the 400-yard free relay (3:28.29) and the 200 free relay (1:34.32) and take second in both the 200 medley relay (1:44.75) and the 800 free relay (7:42.06). Individually, Wurtz was third in the 100 freestyle (52.13), and fourth in both the 50 free (23.77) and the 200 free (1:54.91).
In the men’s MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships, junior Bill Drennen (Spring-Ford) was second in the 800 free relay (6:46.47), ninth in the 1,000yard freestyle (9:47.24) and 10th in the 500 freestyle (4:36.42) as the Red Foxes men’s team placed second.
Junior attack Colin Joka (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was named the MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week after he scored a career-high seven goals to lead the Red Foxes men’s lacrosse team to a season-opening, 13-12 win over Stony Brook. CABRINI Senior forward Fran Rafferty (Upper Merion) was named to the AllColonial States Athletic Conference first team after averaging 14.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game this season for the Cavaliers men’s basketball team (231). Freshman forward Matt Forrest (Methacton) is averaging 4.8 points and 1.1 rebounds per game in 17 contests while freshman forward Brent Mahoney (Pope John Paul II) is averaging 3.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game in 19 appearances. CATHOLIC Freshman Christine Loughery (Archbishop Carroll) enjoyed a banner day as the Cardinals women’s swim team placed third at the Landmark ConferenceChampionships at the Marywood Aquatic Center. Loughery finished first in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.50) and the 800 free relay (7:57.62) while finishing third in the 400 medley relay (4:04.71), fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:17.14) and sixth in the 200 free relay (1:41.23). NOTRE DAME Junior James McEldrew (Germantown Academy) was part of the secondplace 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:26.89) as the Irish men’s swim team dunked Cleveland State, 204.5-94.5. NAVAL ACADEMY Sophomore infielder Drew Hayes (Malvern Prep), a Collegeville resident, is 2-for-11 (,182) in his first four games for the Midshipmen baseball team with an RBI.
Senior attack Aimee Gennaro (Archbishop Carroll) has nine goals and five assists in three games for the Navy women’s lacrosse team (3-0).
Junior Sarah Bernhardt (Episcopal Academy), a Conshohocken resident, won the 500-meter dash (1:17.15) and helped the 4x400-meter relay team finish first (4:03.80) as the Navy women’s track team defeated Army, 104-77.
