Virginia Lee Maley (née Nelson), 81, a longtime Schwenksvi­lle resident, passed away Sept. 2, 2014. She and her husband, John Joseph Maley, recently observed their 61st wedding anniversar­y.

Born Nov. 30, 1932, in Philadelph­ia, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Edna Nelson. She met her future husband as a child in Atlantic City, N.J., where they later graduated from high school. Virginia was a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmothe­r, and great-grandmothe­r. She appreciate­d nature’s beauty and spending time with family and friends at the New Jersey shore. Virginia enjoyed swimming, walking, cross-country skiing and camping. She liked to sing and was a poet, avid reader, and promoter of the visual and performing arts. She had a wonderful sense of humor and valued the same in others. Virginia nurtured her family’s creativity and academic interests.

As a young woman, Virginia worked as a lab technician at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelph­ia. She went on to become a licensed practical nurse. Virginia worked as an LPN and physical therapy aid and later enjoyed working in the Audio-Visual Department of Montgomery County Community College’s library.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by five children, Kathleen Maley of Schwenksvi­lle, John C. Maley and his wife, Anneliese, of Stony Fork, Jane Tomlinson of Schwenksvi­lle, Neil Maley and his wife, Kim, of Schwenksvi­lle and Leighanne Maley-Alesio of Zieglervil­le; 14 grandchild­ren, Joshua Wickersham, Dane Miller, Travis Maley, Christian Lynn, Sarah Lynn, Michelle Rose Maley, Cody John Maley, Corina Tomlinson, Angela Caprio and husband Dan, Ryan Maley, Brittany Maley, Alexander Alesio, Andrew Alesio, and Dylan Alesio; and four great-grandchild­ren, Hannah Kate Wickersham, Parker John Maley; Olivia Caprio, and Brenton Caprio.

Virginia was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Nelson and John Buckley.

Services and interment will be private for the family.
