Methacton GOP candidates respond

-

It is very disappointing that the School Board Election Campaign in the Methacton School District has turned to deceit and smear. Many of us have been hopeful that we would not fall into the trap of the nasty divisiveness which we see in Washington.

The Democratic endorsed and funded CARE group candidates have attacked the Republican candidates one by one and methodically in Facebook as well as in recent letters to the editor. CARE Candidates have been portraying themselves as Bi-Partisan yet, they are endorsed and strongly funded by the Pa. Democratic Committee. There is nothing wrong with the endorsement nor the funding but what is deceptive is trying to convince voters that they are bi-partisan. Their last two campaign finance reports have been filed late and without any reference to the Pa. State Democratic funding. (We say that by late filing and lack of funding reference, there is no transparency.) If you read the first two mailers received last week, in very small print there is acknowledgement of the Pa. Democratic funding.

What is even worse is the deceptive claim that change on the School Board is needed by insinuating that the Republican Candidates are at fault for any of the recent events. The School Board currently has a majority of Democratic/CARE group members. The CARE group has been in control of the Board since 2015. A recent mailing by the CARE group, mentions the Methacton Teachers Strike and Tax Increases as if the minority Republican School Board members were to blame.

It may be too late now in the distorted Methacton School Board Election campaign but we would ask the voters to recognize deception and smear. In a local, community setting we all have to live, work and study together. In a democracy, the end does not justify the means. Republican Candidates: Candy Cain, Brenda Hackett, Herb Rothe,

Karen Vavra
