Pickup hits bear, concrete median; driver has minor injuries

GREENSBURG, PA. » Authoritie­s say a pickup truck struck and killed a bear and then crashed into a concrete median in western Pennsylvan­ia, but the driver sustained only minor injuries.

Police tell WPXI-TV that the crash occurred early Sunday on Interstate 70 near the New Stanton interchang­e in Hempfield Township.

Officials said the driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The bear did not survive.

Boys, aged 10 and 17, charged with illegal deer hunting

BEAVER, PA. » State game commission officials say a 10-year-old and an older teenager have been charged with illegally killing 10 deer with a high-caliber rifle.

The Pittsburgh TribuneRev­iew reports that the Pennsylvan­ia Game Commission says in a report that the white-tailed deer were killed over two nights recently in Beaver County.

The 10-year-old and a 17-year-old Ohio resident were charged with four misdemeano­r and six felony counts of unlawful taking of big game as well as numerous summary offenses for other violations.

The Oct. 31 report, which didn’t identify the youths, said a tip to the commission’s “Operation Game Thief” hotline led to the charges.

Man charged in beating death of older brother

ELKINS PARK, PA. » A man has been charged in the beating death of his older brother in a home just outside of Philadelph­ia.

Sixty-year-old Jamison Bachman is charged in the death of 64-year-old Harry Bachman, whose body was found a little after noon Saturday in the basement of his Elkins Park home.

Montgomery County prosecutor­s and Cheltenham police say there were “obvious signs of a violent struggle” and the victim had blunt force trauma to the head and body.

Harry Bachman’s sport utility vehicle was taken and later found at an Upper Moreland Township hotel, where the suspect was arrested.

Jamison Bachman is charged with first- and third-degree murder, theft and other counts. Court documents don’t list a defense attorney and a message left at a number listed for Jamison wasn’t immediatel­y returned Sunday.

Police: Shooting leaves teen dead, 12-year-old boy wounded

PHILADELPH­IA » A man opened fire on a group of teenagers sitting on a stoop of a northern Philadelph­ia home, killing a 16-year-old and wounding a 12-yearold, less than 24 hours after mourners gathered for the funeral of another 16-yearold shooting victim, police said.

The suspect, described as in his early 20s, approached the group and opened fire shortly after midnight Saturday, then fled, they added.

Responding officers found the 16-year-old youth face down on the street with gunshot wounds to the head and body, police said. He was pronounced dead.

A 12-year-old approached them and showed them a gunshot wound to his right thigh. He was last listed in stable condition.
