William ‘Billy’ Hayes of Conshohock­en

William J. “Billy” Hayes, age 79 of Conshohock­en, a retired millwright and maintenanc­e supervisor, died on Thursday evening November 30th , 2017. He was born in Conshohock­en on February 7, 1938 son of the late James and Jean (Suvitsky) Hayes. He was the beloved husband of the late Nancy (Brooks) Hayes for 49 years.

Billy was born, raised and resided his whole life in Conshohock­en. He attended Conshohock­en High School and graduated from Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. After high school, Bill went onto serve his country honorably by enlisting in the United States Army and serving in South Korea. He was employed as a millwright by Alan Wood Steel Co. and Lukens Steel Co. Later on in his career; he was the maintenanc­e supervisor for Camden Iron & Metal. Having an “old school” work ethic and always wanting to provide the best for his family; Bill’s idea of full time was not 40 hours, but rather 70 to 80 hours a week. He was a craftsman of many talents whose hobbies include: woodworkin­g; metal working; mechanics and machinery, especially cars and motorcycle­s; and countless other interests that engaged the mind and hands. He was a member of Conshohock­en AMBUCS, Gladwynne Vets Post 6956, Spring Mill Fire Co., Swedeland Fire Co. and the CBC. At the end of the day, he cherished being a husband, father, grandfathe­r and great-grandfathe­r to his beloved family.

He is survived by: 2 sons, Chris (Carol) of Audubon and William J. (Lyndsay) of Raleigh, NC; 2 daughters, Terri Zallie (Tom) of Skippack and Bernadette Vereb (Michael) of Jeffersonv­ille; a sister, Kathleen Eskie of Fairview Village; 8 grandchild­ren (Christophe­r, Justin, Ethan, Jason, Emily, Kaitlyn, Michael and Shane); 6 great-grandchild­ren (Evelyn, Sophie, Charlie, Skyler, Alexis and Cristian); many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, “Hey Girl”. He was predecease­d by his brother, James Hayes.

Relatives and friends may pay respects on Tuesday evening, December 5th from 6-8pm or on Wednesday morning, December 6th , from 8:30-10am at the William A. Moore Funeral Home, 708 Fayette St., Conshohock­en. A funeral mass will commence at 10:30am at St. Matthew RC Church in Conshohock­en. Interment, St. Matthew Cemetery in Conshohock­en. In lieu of flowers, donations to be used to purchase therapeuti­c Amtrykes in his memory may be made to the Conshohock­en AMBUCS , PO Box 109, Conshohock­en, PA 19428.
