NP grad Maher named CACC Player of Week

Jefferson University’s Erin Maher (Lansdale/North Penn) was named Central Athletic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after hitting 5 3-pointers to score 26 points and grabbing eight rebounds last Saturday in the Rams’ 80-64 win over Georgian Court.

Maher, who leads the Rams with 11.9 points per game, also had 11 points, four rebounds, four assists, three blocks and a steal in a 73-69 non-conference loss to Kutztown last Wednesday.

Also for Jefferson against Georgian Court, Alynna Williams (Ambler/Plymouth Whitemarsh) had 13 points and two rebounds, Rachel Day (Horsham/Archbishop Wood) collected 10 points, 11 rebounds and three steal, Jessica Kaminski (Philadelph­ia/ Archbishop Wood) went for six points, seven rebounds and two assists and Caitlyn Cunningham (Dresher/Mount Saint Joseph) chipped in five points and three steals.

Against Kutztown, Day finished with 16 points, three rebounds. Williams and Kaminski each had seven points with Kaminski grabbing seven rebounds. Cunningham had five points.

• Kutztown women’s basketball Keifonna Ferguson (Norristown/Norristown) was named Pennsylvan­ia State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division Athlete of the Week after averaging 12.7 points and 11.0 rebounds in the Golden Bears’ three wins last week.

Ferguson finished with 14 points and nine rebounds in the 73-69 win over Jefferson last Wednesday then registered backto-back double-doubles — 12 points and 10 rebounds in a 7869 win over Mercyhurst last Saturday then 12 points and 14 rebounds as KU topped Gannon 6559 Sunday.

Also for Kutztown in the win over Jefferson, Gabbi Wright (Elkins Park/Cheltenham) had 14 points, five rebounds and two blocks and Karen Lapkiewicz (Southampto­n/Saint Basil) collected nine points, eight rebounds and four assists.

had 13 points against Gannon and eight assists against Jefferson. Jenna Widdicombe (Pottstown/Pope John Paul II) scored 12 points against Mercyhurst. Kalee Fuegel (Philadelph­ia/Saint Basil) scored six points against Gannon.

• Ursinus College men’s basketball’s Zach Quattro (Lansdale/ Hatboro-Horsham) was named Centennial Conference Player of the Week after averaging 22.0 points per game and shooting 76.0 percent (19 of 25) from the field in the Bears’ two games last week.

Quattro finished with 19 points, six rebounds and a block last Saturday at UC defeated McDaniel 83-77 in overtime. Ursinus also got 20 points and two steals from Ryan McTamney (Roxborough/La Salle). Shane Stark (Collegevil­le/ La Salle) collected 12 points, 11 rebounds and five steals, Brian Rafferty (Harleysvil­le/Lansdale Catholic) chipped in five assists and three rebounds while Zack Muredda (Perkasie/Pennridge) had three rebound and two assists.

In a 77-69 loss to Franklin and Marshall last Thursday, Quattro paced Ursinus with 25 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists. Stark put up 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists, McTamney had eight points and two assists, Rafferty ended with four points, four assists and four rebounds and Muredda scored five points.

• USciences women’s basketball’s Irisa Ye (Lansdale/North Penn) was named CACC Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week after averaging 12.3 points in the Devils’ three victories last week.

In the 67-63 win over Adelphia last Tuesday, Ye finished with nine points and three rebounds then last Saturday had 13 points, four rebounds and two steals in the 5745 victory over Holy Family.
