Robert J. Gibbons, age 91, husband of Margaret M. Helwig Gibbons and the late Carolyn (Passenger) Gibbons, of Royersford, PA, died Friday, December 29, 2017 in Phoenixvil­le Hospital. Born on December 7, 1926 in Albany, NY, he was a son of the late William and Elizabeth Gibbons. He was a graduate of The Milne School, Albany, NY. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Bob was the founder of GibbonsFas­tag in Royersford and six other locations. Now, several members of the family carry on his legacy in this business. An avid golfer, Mr. Gibbons was a member of several golf clubs in the Norristown and Royersford area. He passed this love of golf onto his sons. Also, he was a member of St. Teresa of Calcutta R.C. Church in Limerick, PA., where he served as an altar server at daily Mass, was an usher, and helped in the funeral ministry. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, working on word puzzles, playing gin rummy, and putting together jigsaw puzzles. As the patriarch of the Gibbons family, he will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife of 18 years, Mr. Gibbons is survived by six sons, James R. (Patricia McMinn) Gibbons of Limerick, PA, the Rev. John M. Gibbons of Philipsbur­g, PA, William C. (Melene) Gibbons of Jacksonvil­le, NC, Richard D. (Nancy) Gibbons of Lexington, SC, David A. (Paulette) Gibbons of Royersford, PA, and Michael J. (Beth) Gibbons of Malvern, PA; stepdaught­er, Amy J. (Vincent) Melli of Phoenixvil­le, PA; 12 grandchild­ren and one great-granddaugh­ter. Mr. Gibbons was predecease­d by one brother, William Gibbons.

Relatives and friends are invited to participat­e in the funeral Mass at St. Teresa of Calcutta R.C. Church, 256 Swamp Pike, Schwenksvi­lle, PA on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 11:00 am, celebratin­g Bob’s life. Officiatin­g will be his son, Rev. John M. Gibbons. Burial will be held in the Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, King of Prussia, PA. Friends will be received from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Wednesday evening or from 9:45 am - 10:45 am at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Associatio­n, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL 60601.
