Lansdale Catholic grad shines in Quinnipiac win

Taylor Herd (Quakertown/ Lansdale Catholic) made four 3-pointers in scoring a careerbest 16 points — besting her previous high of 10 she reached twice this season — and also grabbed a pair of rebounds for the Quinnipiac women’s basketball team as it defeated Niagara 77-61 Thursday. The win was the fourth straight for the Bobcats, who are now 9-5 overall and 3-0 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

• Nicole Munger (Doylestown/ Central Bucks West) finished with 10 points, six rebounds, three steals and an assist as the 22ndranked Michigan women’s basketball team beat Wisconsin 80-57 Thursday to give head coach Kim Barnes Arico her 124th career win with the Wolverines — the most in program history.

• Chestnut Hill College’s Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove/Archbishop Wood) was named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week after averaging 13.0 points and 2.5 assists in the Griffins’ win over Holy Family Dec. 19 and Georgian Court Dec. 30.

Wednesday in Chestnut Hill’s 98-85 win over Wilmington, Sebold had a team-high 19 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, two steal and a block. Vicky Tumasz (North Wales/North Penn) hit four 3-pointers in scoring 16 points, handed out nine assists and also had two rebounds and a steal for the Griffins, who have won three straight.

The lone field goal for Matt Penecale (Jenkintown/Abington) Wednesday came at the opportune time for the West Chester men’s basketball team as his jumper with 2.2 seconds left broke a 73-73 tie with Millersvil­le and gave the Golden Rams a 7573 victory.
