Catherine M. DeBenny, “Kay”, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2018 at age 97. Born in Norristown on February 8, 1920, Kay was the daughter of Carmella (Gianchino) and Frank Venezia. Kay was a life-time resident of Norristown where she lived with her beloved husband, Joseph A. DeBenny, who preceded her in death.

Kay was the loving mother of Al DeBenny (Hazel), Joanne Brulet (Richard) and Carmelline Lukens (Thomas). She was the cherished grandmothe­r of Jill DeBenny, Anne Catlin (Eric), and Joseph DeBenny, Cathy Wix (Torry), and Samantha and Taylor Lukens. She was the great grandmothe­r of Kayden Wix, and Silas and Hayes Catlin. Kay was the last of eight children and was preceded in death by her siblings Michael, Andrew, Joseph, Rose, Ann, Mary and Josephine.

She was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Church, where she was active in the Women’s Guild, a member of the Sodality of the Blessed Mother, a member of the NSS Club, and volunteere­d at many soup kitchens. She worked in a hosiery factory, but during World War II she left the factory to become a welder. She was a woman of many talents, which included baking, cooking, crocheting and entertaini­ng with her family and friends.

She will truly be missed by her family, friends, everyone whose lives she touched.

Relatives and friends are invited to Kay’s Life Celebratio­n at Boyd-Horrox-Givnish of East Norriton, 200 W. Germantown Pike on Thursday, January 18th from 6-8 PM and again Friday at St. Patrick’s Church, 714 DeKalb Street, Norristown from 9-9:45 AM. Kay’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM followed by interment at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
