Andrew “Andy” E. Kovach passed away peacefully on Monday, January 15, 2018. He was 91. Mr. Kovach was a longtime resident of Bridgeport, PA. A graduate of Pottstown High School, Class of 1944, Andy also attended Montgomery Co. Community College and Penn State. He worked as a financial analyst for the Unisys Corporatio­n and worked for over 50 years part time as a funeral attendant for the Bacchi Funeral Home. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Bridgeport, the Men of Malvern, Knights of Columbus Council 3327, Sampson WW II Vets, the Catholic VFW in Bridgeport, and was a 4th Degree Knight of the Fr. Tomko Assembly. Andy had a love of music, enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Polkateer Pals Club. Andy was a devoted husband to his wife, Bridget; they were inseparabl­e. He was an amazing father with a heart of gold. Known as Pop Pop to his grandchild­ren, words cannot describe the love he had for them. Andy was known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He could always bring a smile to your face. Andy was an inspiratio­n to all.

Andy was a proud US Navy veteran of WW II, serving from 1944 to 1946 in the European Theatre of Operations. He served aboard the USS Diver, which was a rescue and salvage ship responsibl­e for coming to the aid of stricken vessels.

Born in Pottstown, PA on May 20, 1926, he was a son of the late Andrew E. and Susan (Iswalt) Kovach. Surviving is his loving wife of 64 years, Bridget (Kushner) Kovach; two daughters, Lorraine Reid and her husband, William and Patricia Cook; a son, Stephen Kovach and his wife, Keri; two grandchild­ren, Matthew Cook and Stephanie Evans and her husband, Collin; a sister, Mildred Oxenford; and many other family members. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Eileen Kovach; a brother, John Kovach; and three sisters: Dorothy Sakal, Gertrude Holowis and Margaret Dragus.

Relatives & friends are invited to Andy’s viewing at SS. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 519 Union Ave., Bridgeport, PA on Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 9 to 10:45 am, followed by his Divine Liturgy at 11:00 am. Interment will be in SS. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Cemetery, King of Prussia, PA.
