Main Line Health hospitals ‘star’ in quality rating

Main Line Health hospitals were rated as top performers in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ new Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating.

The overall rating shows how well each hospital performed, on average, compared to other hospitals in the U.S. The overall rating ranges from one to five stars. The more stars, the better a hospital performed on the available quality measures.

Main Line Health hospitals received the following ratings:

• Lankenau Medical Center — 5 stars • Bryn Mawr Hospital — 5 stars • Paoli Hospital — 5 stars • Riddle Hospital — 4 stars Lankenau, Bryn Mawr and Paoli were three of only 12 hospitals in the state to receive a five on the Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating.

“Main Line Health’s performance in the CMS ratings represents our commitment to excellence and constant performance improvement,” said Eileen Jaskuta, system vice president of safety and quality, Main Line Health. “A lot of factors come into play to determine the ratings, and it’s truly a multidisciplinary effort to achieve such superior results.”

Last week, the Daily Local News reported that Chester County Hospital in West Chester also was awarded a five-star rating in the study.

The report summarizes data from up to 57 quality measures across seven categories: mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, effectiveness of care, timeliness of care and efficient use of medical imaging. Those measures are publicly reported on Hospital Compare into a single star rating for each hospital, making it easier for consumers to compare hospitals and interpret complex quality information.
